Dear Collaborators,
Welcome to the WISH Herschel observations database.
You are required to present wishdata password in order to access the WISH database fully.
Once you are in you will find PACS and HIFI data by their OBSID's which were observed through WISH.
When you go to an observation, at the index page, you will see all the relevant header information
regarding that specific observation. There are a few dates which needs to be clarified.
Observation Date: The date of observation by Herschel.
Processing/Pipeline Date: The data is processed through a pipeline in order to get Level 2 data.
It is either processed by HSA or here at the WISH computer with the newest calibration files. The next line
HIPE/Pipeline Version explains by which version of HIPE was used to process this data. For the newest
observations it is always HSA pipeline date.
WISH Processing Date: The date when we process the data to our WISH database.
In the WISH database, the data is always stored by the following naming convention.
- obsid_13421xxxxx_d20xxxxxx_whatever.any
obsid_13421xxxxx_ Since every observation have a unique observation ID,
we preferred to use OBSIDs in the file names.
d20xxxxxx_ is the WISH Processing Date.
HIFI DATA
There are 5 folders in each HIFI observation page.
RAW DATA This is the raw data which is processed by HIPE/Pipeline Version X.x.x.
There are two versions of rawdata.
1) The rawdata file with an extension ".tar" have to be imported to HIPE. More details on
HERE
2) However, the rawdata file with an extension "_imported.tar.gz" has already been imported, therefore they only have to be
directly copied to your lstore and retrive with the following command
obs = GetObsFromPool("obsid_134219xxxx",1)
PNG IMAGES Here are the stitched quick look images automatically produced by HIPE. If there is any
spur in the observation, then it is bad luck. In that case, the y-axis reaches to
a few thousands of K which makes the science line to see impossible.
We are trying to find a way to rescale the y-axis in order to prevent this,
but no promise yet.
EPS IMAGES The same explanations apply as PNG IMAGES, but they are in eps format.
FITS IMAGES Those fits files are the intermediate process files in order to convert to
CLASS format next. These are not IDL compatible files.
CLASS FORMAT Here there are two types of data. Stitched & Non-stiched.
Each HIFI spectra are actually composed of 4 different subbands. These are consecutive in frequency and overlapping
at the edges. In the stitched spectra we stitched them automatically in HIPE (averaging the overlapping edges)
and create one large spectra. It might occur that the science line could be very close to one of the subbands and
stitching might affect the science line. In order to prevent those cases, we also provide the non-stitched spectra
for you to analyse and stitch manually. (Btw, this is quite rare after the automatic stitch).
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR HIFI OBSERVATIONS
H-V Discrepancy:
For H and V bands; there could be discrepacy over the observations. It was seen in most cases. If you are not dealing
polarizations and if there are no discrepancy, you can average them safely to get better S/N. In any case, it is
important to check this manually and visually.
PACS DATA
There are 4 folders in some (mainly not very new) PACS observation pages.
RAW DATA Please see above HIFI rawdata explanation.
PNG IMAGES These maps are created by Greg
by using IDL. Since they are doing manually they are not immediately visible just after we process the observation in the database.
EPS IMAGES The same explanations apply as PNG IMAGES, but they are in eps format.
FITS IMAGES These maps are created by Greg
